Rolling by on my bicycle, I snapped this photo.
The farmyard was picture perfect complete with clothes drying in the wind. Goats munching flowers, chickens crowing from the roof top, and a sleeping cat all add to the charm. Riding a bicycle through the midwest provides more hills than one would imagine, unless you live in Eastern Iowa...then you know just how hilly it can be.
This afternoon this charmer was very interested to see just what was riding by his lush green pasture. Shades of green and more green with a little ocher thrown in for art pleasure, makes for a background of hues behind this black and white beauty. Love cows, they just make me smile.

Bicycling across eastern Iowa, the hills can be intense. It is not the flat lands that most think of when Iowa comes to mind. The view from a bicycle loaded with 75 lbs of gear becomes much more up and down,...and so beautiful. In an Iowa landscape where green reigns, this artist infused it with vivid colors. The peace and solitude, and the incessant wind, is a glory to behold. The shadows and sunlight paint patterns as far as I can see. Enjoy!

What's your story? Where do your dreams take you?
I looked out over the backyard, a painting began to breathe. Yes, I know, it is in land locked Iowa, my home town, Spencer. No ocean. The backyard was serene, bursting with color, buzzing with bees and birds were tittering. Our main "garden muncher" had popped in for a visit. Beautiful, but no ocean. Tiny creatures could be seen everywhere, poking their heads out of their nearly hidden windows and doors, even as the clock on the garden wall tick-tocked. Enchanting, but no ocean. What is a Jersey girl to do? This one cannot live without the ocean, so with a few swirls of the paint brush I added Jersey sunshine, sprinkled a little seashore fairy dust, and there it was, the fabulous Atlantic Ocean complete with beach umbrella and sailing boats and funky fish. Ah, yes, now it looks like my home town, revisited. In my dreams. Welcome to my world.

When I was creating this piece of art, I played with color and shapes and kept everything outside “the box.” I often like it better that way. There is usually a “walking through mud” day as I smoosh the paint around, and I wonder what the heck I think I am doing. But I know the glory is right around the corner, so I continue on a well-worn path. And then it happened, I saw the blue fish! There he was looking up at me and swimming right along. And then my smile began to grow, and grew till it reached my ears. Oh, yes! There was the glory and the joy and the fun of it all. Who can explain that?

A summer holiday spent in the Mediterranean on the island of Malta was this artist's dream come true.

This sunflower morphed from a simple little painting into glorious color and patterns of pinks and purples and yellows and greens.
All in typical palette. But there is nothing typical about this sunflower design. Shouting colors and patterns all taken from snippets of other paintings I have created. Joy bursts from the center to all 4 corners. And our smiling cat is almost hidden in the corner. Our lab loved to eat! She was quiet in her begging.
Just licked the table plate clean and waited for more. She was the very best dog. Never another like her. Miss her hungry eyes. She was never not interested in ford. So when I wanted to paint her portrait, it seemed fitting to have her in a pose ready for dinner! She loved her family and she loved her food.

My little tuxedo cat was playing hide and seek and was well hidden until one "whap" with his paw and all was revealed.

This pastel was painted plein air.
Cape May Point, NJ is home to all things restful and beautiful and the serenity of the sleepy town is reflected in the large wrap around porch and worn wicker chairs under the sky blue porch ceilings. The home's historic wood siding is a weathered yellow as it reflects the warm sunshine day after day and speaks of all the years it has been standing in this place as the ocean winds were whooshing by each hurricane season. As I sat by the road and painted, I fantasized about moving in to such a peaceful retreat.
